Question

I have a Midrange MI HMI with an expansion pod attached. My project uses extensive logging, but I have forgotten to include support to extract the logs via the serial port. How can I retrieve my logs?

Answer

The alarm log and the event log can be extracted from the unit via
the serial port using scripting commands, also the logs can be printed
to a line printer.

If a HMI contains a log, but the project does not contain the support you need within its configuration you have a problem. Do not change the configuration and download a new project, the logs will be wiped on download. The logs are actually contained within the expansion pod, if you are using one. You can remove the pod, add the required functionality to your project, download it, then finally power down and reconnect the pod. In this way the logs will remain intact, and they can be extracted via the new functionality added to your project.

In the case of a HMI with no pod this is not possible, and you cannot retrieve the logs in this case, other than visually through the log screens.
